Well it was another good evening in Kings Sutton with Paul, Chris , Tim and myself. Paul gave us the lowdown of the Didgehead Radio Fest at Tapeley which sounded like a great weekend. Paul also had been shopping and bought himself one of Ant's didges which sounded great and we all hope it will be an inspiration for Paul to crack the breathing (so nearly there!)  We then got down to trying out some didge rhythms to fit with Tim's freeform drumming and I particularly liked the Latin rhythm we did...it's actuallly quite a challenge when you have to carefully listen to everyone else as well as concentrating on what you're doing. We'll continue exploring this avenue and no doubt get some more additions to our growing 'set'.Tim also brought the video of our gig at the AfricanLinx festival   It was good to hear what we sounded like and I still reckon for a first gig it was a pretty impressive effort..(we'll get them dancing next year just you wait! ) Looking forward to the next BDC and I hope we can ALL make it for that one?

See you there!!

On a very wet and muddy Sunday the Banbury Didge Club opened the show at the AfricanLinx festival in Cropredy. Congratulations to all for doing a great set especially considering the fact we had hardly any time to warm up and also virtually NO rehearsal! I personally can't wait to hear what we sound like with some practice behind us as I thought we sounded great. Congrats too to Chris for his first solo performance in front of an audience and Tim for some great drumming, oh yes Adrian..nice percussion by the way (didn't think we'd really have a problem getting you on stage in the end!) A fitting performance for our 5th anniversary!

Thanks to all for taking part and special thanks to Pete for giving us the chance to play at such a groovy venue. Hopefully we'll be able to play again next year?

Really looking forward to the BDC on the 19th...reckon we're going to have loads of ideas and plans for the future of our little club...personally I feel the potential is enormous!! Hope to see you all there :)

August Club Meeting PDF Print E-mail

Woo! We're Five! The August meeting marks the fifth anniversary of BDC's inaugural meet (which I missed). It's great to know we've been going so long, though it certainly doesn't feel like it.

I'm also happy to confirm that Adrian has indeed cracked circular breathing, and demonstrated it amply at our August club meet.

A most excellent evening, spent (when we weren't congratulating Adrian on his progress) rehearsing (well, ok, making up) what we're going to include in our set at next weekend's African Linx festival. Many thanks to Tim for bringing an impressive selection of percussion toys to play with - I still have no idea what most of them are, but they make some great noises. African Linx will be the first time I some of us have performed in front of a large number of people, though Jono's an old hand. Adrian still thinks we're not going to get him on stage, but he's a vital part of the rhythm section, so he may not have a choice.

Our biggest problem is going to be our old achilles' heel: remembering the rhythms we've rehearsed.  Still, sounds like a great lineup, so come down and catch some great music. Oh, and pray for a dry weekend...
